Somewhere Under The Rainbow

Today is my little man's birthday .... he is 6 today!
.
He wanted a rainbow birthday party and yesterday was the big day.
.
In my usual style, I went completely overboard and went mad ... but if you can't do that for a six year old, who can you go mad for?
.
I invited the whole of his class, plus a few extras, hired a hall and have spent the last 3 weeks plotting all kinds of rainbow-ness.
.
You will have to use your imagination a lot on this post because I wasn't in charge of the camera yesterday.
.
I was in charge of doing this :
.

.
Here's a close-up on those eyelashes :
.
.
When the kids came through the metallic rainbow door, they were asked to decorate some plain paper bags with rainbow crayons ... these were to be used later.
.
.
They could have rainbows painted on their cheeks if they wanted :
.

.
We had a few lively party games which meant me shouting an awful lot - you know : "I can't hear you, you'll have to shout louder" type of thing.
.
Then it was time to eat!
.
I made a rainbow cake, that was supposed to look like this :
.

.
(I'm sure that's actual sponge inside rather than cake!)
.
But looked like this:
.
.
(I used a recipe for American-Frosting. What the recipe didn't tell me was American Frosting is stickier than a stick-insect that has got stuck on a sticky bun)
.
There was homemade food-dye coloured bread sandwiches, smarties, rainbow biscuits, rainbow cakes, sausages, crisps (no healthy cucumber or tomato at my parties!), home-made marshmallow raindrops ... all of which I meant to photograph in an arty-farty way, but you'll have to make do with this :
.

.
After the food, we had a go on the pinata - which ended up with me bashing away and eventually ripping it to pieces whilst our poor (tall) friend had to stand on a chair dangling it on a piece of string because there was nowhere on the ceiling to hang it from. He was very brave to stand there for so long with lots of 6 year olds waving the baton around his family-jewels. Needless to say, I didn't blindfold the kids ... that would have been too cruel!
.
I had also painted a huge rainbow on some paper and sprayed a Halloween plastic cauldron gold and filled it with chocolate gold-coins (good old ebay!) and when they were all scrabbling about under the pinata I placed it at the end of the rainbow and told them to look for a pot of gold!
.
So where could the kids put all their pinata goodies and gold coins? In their paper bags of course!
.
Then there was the rainbow-drop of balloons, which the kids absolutely loved ... lots of squealing!
.

.

.
(No effects have been used on this photo - the blur is all natural!)
.
I had also made some fabric party bags using the colours of the rainbow and some rainbow ribbon which were all nicely put in a basket which I then failed to photograph, so you will just have to imagine! These were of course filled with rainbow pencils, rainbow rubbers, rainbow stickers and rainbow sweets.
.
I also made for the party bags some rainbow badges with leftovers of the rainbow ribbon which I did photograph :
.

.
So now I'm hoarse from shouting and we're all off out tonight to our favourite restaurant "Brewer's Fayre" (or as I like to think of it; "Brewer's Droop")
.

.
Happy Birthday Little Man!
.
PS - can you spot the quote from Blackadder?!

"stickier than a stick-insect that has got stuck on a sticky bun" I reckon!

fab party well done you, I think I might bite the bullet and do a birthday bash at our village hall for Jamie for her 11th in February.... Daniel would probably enjoy a party for his 3rd birthday in January so you never know I might be doing two next year!
Looks completely manic and everyone looks like they are having a very exciting time...

Wahey! What a blast! I briefly did kids' parties for a living and it was always so much fun, as long as you come down to their level, chuck your inhibitions out the window and do everything at the top of your voice!!!
Love all the coloured food but, best of all, your socks!!!
